November 16, 2024 to January 12, 2025, two projects dealing with the medium of drawing will be presented at Berlin’s Kunstraum Kreuzberg Bethanien: ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS – a project for original drawings, curated by the artist Anke Becker and LINES FICTION – a project for animated drawings and films, curated by the artist Bettina Munk.

The exhibition ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS 2024 features roughly 1000 drawings by 1000 international artists. The works are presented with no mention of authorship or title and offered for sale at a symbolic price of 250€ each. The identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is sold: Sold drawings will be taken right off the wall and the empty space left behind will be marked with the artist‘s full name and place of origin.
ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS is conceptual art and an exhibition project all in one: the works of the participating artists become part of a large wall installation; a hierarchy-free homage to the diverse medium of drawing.

A situation that is confused, difficult or long drawn out.
Painting is a messy business. The paint is slippery and hard to control. It gets on everything – clothes, skin, hair. In the studio it can be hard to find a path through the chaos. It is a series of tricky negotiations, with resolution arriving after lengthy debate.
Aldridge, Doherty, Keown and Wallace are committed to the debate. In their separate studios they engage in a precarious balancing act. Ideas and colour are stacked in each composition. Paint gets moved around and sometimes objects too. Imagery appears and disappears; shapes collapse and are rebuilt through a series of improvised moves. The aim for each artist is to leave the final composition open somehow and hold on to possibility in the artwork whether two or three dimensional…………

Collaboration Project ‘Ceramic Poem’ with master potter Con Lynch
The ‘Ceramic Poem’ project explores deep connections between people, place, legacy, interconnections’ & continued practice. Working in collaboration with Sligo based master potter Con Lynch, we are creating a unique series of calligraphic bowls based on the Sligo landscape.
It’s been an intensive period of research & production this summer for the first phase of our project.
My starting point was an archive of colour observational studies I created ‘en plein air’ 1993-2010 to use a catalyst for making new work – painting on a this dynamic curved surface of clay .
The common shape of the bowl, its circle and vessel fascinates me and inspires me to capture an intimate universe in its shell. I’m trying to create spontaneous calligraphic images, related to remembered place, highlighting line, colour and gesture on clay. This has been a challenge at times, but also deeply rewarding. Working closely with Con has been an absolute pleasure from deciding the type of clay, scale, we are now contemplating the scope of the project & its future presentations.

‘With its exhibition origins in Wales in the UK, Without Borders seeks to remove barriers, create alliances, and connect with neighbors in contrast to the current political and social upheaval that is working to tear people apart. The socio-political situation of the UK’s break from the EU compounded by a global pandemic that is hitting with new and more contagious strains of the virus, people are struggling with job loss, poverty and depression very distinctly, along with these larger national divisions brewing and adding to the feeling of instability. With this exhibition, the aim is to bring artists together during a complex time of struggle and isolation, to consider these as world issues and work to collaborate in an international touring exhibition of works on paper in order to inspire some hope for the future through a collection of
traveling artists pages. These will be displayed free standing on
slotted shelves and ‘island stands’ in series of touring exhibitions
that will provide awareness and hope for the future’.
